DEFORD will launch its 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries, equipped with an intelligent BMS in Q3, 2026.

Following a year-long period of batch testing and validation, DEFORD is set to launch the 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries which equipped with an intelligent battery management system (BMS) in September 2026. There are 8 models to meet the motorcycle battery replacement demands of clients.

Compared to the 1st generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries we launched in 2025, our 2nd generation batteries offer the following outstanding advantages, delivering a superior user experience for clients.

1. The 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries utilize cells based on a layered oxide cathode material (hereinafter referred to as "layered-oxide sodium-ion batteries"), whereas the 1st generation version employed cells based on sodium iron phosphate pyrophosphate cathode material (hereinafter referred to as "NFPP sodium-ion batteries"). Layered-oxide sodium-ion batteries feature higher charge and discharge voltage plateaus than NFPP battery chemistry. They not only deliver higher starting power but also effectively prevent "load dump" faults - issues that can occur in NFPP sodium-ion motorcycle batteries when overcharge protection is triggered.

2. Our R&D team has developed an intelligent battery management system (hereinafter referred to as the "sodium-ion BMS") for the 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries. The sodium-ion BMS provides continuous monitoring and management of the sodium-ion cells, ensuring they consistently operate within their permissible voltage, current, and temperature ranges. This significantly extends the service life of sodium-ion motorcycle batteries and effectively prevents thermal runaway incidents.

The sodium-ion BMS featured in the 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries also includes an emergency start function. The sodium-ion BMS continuously monitors the battery's remaining charge and cuts off the output when the state of charge (SoC) is low. When the rider needs to restart the motorcycle, they can simply activate the battery by using either the In-line Switch or the button on lid to successfully start the motorcycle.

3. Our R&D team developed custom molds for the 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries. The dual-terminal design (featuring both positive and negative terminals) enables the battery to be installed without regard to terminal orientation, thereby eliminating the inconvenience users often face regarding terminal alignment when replacing batteries.

We designed a dedicated cell holder for our 2nd generation sodium-ion motorcycle batteries. This not only meets rigorous vibration testing standards but also optimizes natural convection cooling within the battery. These features effectively extend the battery's service life and prevent thermal runaway incidents.
