Lead acid batteries are still widely used to power floor cleaning machines today. That’s understandable since they have been the most common battery type for more than one century. But just as the passage of time has brought incredible innovation to cleaning machine technology, so too has innovation modernized batteries. In recent years, the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery has become an attractive alternative to lead acid batteries. LiFePO4 batteries can maximize uptime and productivity, simplify operations with an uncomplicated charging process and make facilities safer - because there’s no exposure to flammable fuels and battery acid.
LiFePO4 batteries come at a higher cost but deliver big advantages in the life and performance of the batteries. They have the longest battery life of 2,000+ charge cycles and require zero maintenance because there’s no watering or other maintenance. For organizations that don’t have machine operators well trained in taking care of lead acid batteries, LiFePO4 batteries offer a maintenance-free, no fuss option.
With significantly higher battery life and charge cycles, LiFePO4 batteries also have much faster charge time than lead acid batteries. It is the only type of battery for floor cleaning equipment that allows for opportunity charging—charging whenever the operator wants to - without sacrificing battery life.
To help you understand the differences between LiFePO4 battery and lead-acid battery, the MT24105 is compared with a typical lead acid Group 31x2 battery bank as follows:

How to design advanced
LiFePO4 battery systems for floor scrubbers?
A lithium battery system is composed of three critical parts like
cells, battery management system and battery case.
Our talented engineers are experienced in development, or selection of the parts.
Cell Selection
Our electrochemical engineers with more than 15 years’ experience are deeply understand all types of secondary lithium battery chemistry, whether in pros or cons. We take high quality EVE Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), automotive-grade cells to manufacture our highly reliable and safe battery systems widely used on floor sweepers, walk-behind floor scrubbers, ride-on floor scrubbers, or robotic floor scrubbers.
BMS - Battery Management System
Battery management systems are electronic control circuits that monitor and regulate the charging and discharge of lithium batteries. The lithium battery characteristics to be monitored include the detection of battery chemistry, voltages, temperature, capacity, sate of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), power consumption, remaining operating time, charging cycles, and some more characteristics. Our talented electrical design engineers with more than 10 years’ experience are up to the challenge to develop more efficient, longer-lasting and more reliable BMS in house.
Battery Mechanics
Most of lithium battery systems are sensitive to work condition like mechanical shock and vibration, or temperature. It is a priority work to design a rugged battery case to protect cells and BMS away from possible mechanical shock and vibration damage. Meanwhile our mechanical engineers simulate battery thermal runaway by FMEA, especially when battery heat dissipation relys on natural convection. Keeping battery works in recommended temperature range is necessary to keep it high performance and long life.
How to monitor, or upgrade your floor scrubber battery?
Users can download the free LiAGE App from App Store, or Google Play to monitor their floor scrubber battery. The LiAGE App can provide battery real-time monitoring, or warning notification to users. Your floor scrubber battery reserves a data port on side which can be used to upgrade battery firmware through specific host computer software.
