DEFORD unveils their NFPP chemistry sodium-ion powersports batteries in Q2, 2025.
After more than 13 months of tests, DEFORD New Power Co., Ltd. releases 4 model NFPP chemistry sodium-ion powersports batteries in May, 2025. They cover the Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) from 75CCA to 320CCA. The launch of sodium-ion powersports batteries will fundamentally change the landscape of the powersports battery market in the next few years.
Lead acid battery has been dominated the powersports battery market for decades. Lithium-ion battery is not good at cold-starting the engine and therefore cannot meet the requirements of starting batteries. Sodium-ion battery has excellent low-temperature discharge performance and can still keep high power even at -28 degrees Celsius. In terms of CCA performance, sodium-ion battery is even more advantageous than lead acid battery.
Lead acid battery should strictly avoid over-discharge to prevent irreversible loss on capacity. Whilst Sodium-ion battery is not afraid of over-discharge and can be discharged to 0V, there will be no loss of capacity after recharging. Lead-acid battery usually need to be charged every 3 months to keep the performance, while sodium-ion battery can extend the charging time to 12 months.
The abundance of sodium in the earth's crust is 2.3%, ranking sixth among all elements, significantly higher than 0.0017% of lithium. Sodium is widely found on land and in the ocean in the form of salt and is easy to obtain. Compared with lead-acid battery, sodium-ion battery is eco-friendly. Sodium-ion battery does not contain any heavy metals and are 100% recyclable.
To help customers understand the differences of powersports battery between sodium-ion chemistry and lead-acid chemistry, the NA1204 is compared with a typical Yuasa YTX9-BS battery as follows:
